English Learners

ELD Common Core Standards

English Learners have the difficulty task of learning grade level material as they learn the English Language. All of Lexington's teachers have been trained to support and teacher English Learners with specific strategies. In addition, English Learners have a protected hour of time during the school day when the focus is to teach them English.  For more information, click on the link below:




All current English Learners and new enrollees  who speak a language other than English will take the California English Language Development Test  (CELDT) during the beginning of the school year. The test is designed to measure the level of English proficiency of new enrollees and annual progress made by current English Learners.


English Learners who meet the all criteria that indicate proficiency in English  will be eligible for reclassification.
